Understand the Principle of Polarity to Improve your Life

Opposites Attract. We’ve likely heard that phrase in life before. It’s certainly a rule that I have seen alive and well in my life, and likely you as well. The point of this post is to really help you better use and understand the principle of polarity to improve your life.

I’ll give you one great example in my life. My life partner, my wife, is my opposite in almost every way. She balances me, has been my counter opinion when I needed different perspective. We think differently, yet also appreciate each others perspectives. It is what has really made our marriage unique and at times quite entertaining.

This fourth principle of Hermeticism contains the truth that everything has its pair of opposites. It explains that in all things, there are two poles that exist in a state of constant duality. The secret lying behind this principle is that opposites are really “the same,” only varying by small degrees in difference.

Opposites are really just the extremes of the same thing. Some examples of this are “hot and cold.” Both are simply a description of temperature; varying only in degree. There is no clear-cut point when hot stops being hot, and starts being cold and vice versa. When is “hot” actually hot? 80 degrees (27 degrees Celsius)? Maybe 85 degrees (29 degrees Celsius)? 95 degrees (35 degrees Celsius)? The same goes for “light and darkness,” “hard and soft,” “big or small,” and even “love and hate.” With “love and hate” there is no clear point where one emotion becomes another, or when it passes through “like,” “dislike,” or “indifference.”

The Power of Perception

All these examples are left up to individual perceptions of the degree. The principle of Polarity exists to explain these paradoxes. This principle is important because it implicates we can adjust the polarity of a degree of emotion. All we need to do is recognize which degree which best suits our needs.

We often can experience involuntary and rapid transitions in our psyche between love and hate, like and dislike, as well as many other frames of emotions. Ultimately, our goal should be to “notice these emotions.” As we experience them, we can choose to experience these transitions through the use of our willpower for the betterment of our life and the lives of others.

The better we get at recognizing the emotions and feelings within us, the more we are brought into a more “present moment,” of existence. The difference within these polarities of extremes is not a insurmountable challenge. They are simply expressions of the same thing, differing only in degree, to choose between.

The Practice of Mental Alchemy

This practice of recognizing and adjusting to these polarities can be known or described as the art of Mental Alchemy. You can really improve your life if you understand this mindful ability. If you have never read, “The Alchemist,” by Paulo Coelho, I would HIGHLY recommend it. The book is a short, easy read, that speaks to a great story of a man on a journey to find his purpose. He thinks he has to complete a long journey to find it. However, all the while he possesses it within himself and ultimately discovers his way to his purpose through his mind and awareness.

We each have an opportunity daily to work on the mastery of this art…

We just have to awaken to this truth and realize that the potential to discover real treasures lie within us. It takes time and commitment. But treasures chests full of rewards aren’t typically lying out in the open for easy taking. With the right amount of mindfulness, we can improve our life using the principle of polarity.

We have to dig deep and work to find them.

The Principle of Vibration and its effect in Life

Everything in life is vibrating. Life is made up of energy. The chair I sit on as I type this post is not actually solid. It is made up of billions and billions of tiny little atoms swirling around at such a fast pace that the chair appears solid and even holds me in place. But, the chair is not actually “solid matter.” The Principle of vibration and its effect in life is something that we need to understand in order to see the bigger picture.

In my previous blog post, we discussed the principle of correspondence, the second of the 7 principles of the Kybalion. The third principle of Vibration builds upon this learning. Feel free to go back and read it as well as the first principle of mentalism.

Atoms are Actually Empty Space

Science and physics have come a long way over the centuries and in the modern era we have come to understand energy is at the center of everything. It has been proven true that atoms are actually made up of empty space.

Here’s some mind-bending statistics – an atom’s nucleus is only a few femtometers across. A femtometer is actually a word, I didn’t just make it up, though it sounds like it. A femtometer is about a thousand million millionth of a meter. Super incredibly small.

So now we need to understand exactly how far away the electrons are from the nucleus of the atom. They actually travel around the nucleus at a distance of one-ten-billionth of a meter away from the core. To “right size” this – it’s 100,000 times the width of the nucleus. A comparison to this would be if the nucleus were a basketball centered in Manhattan, then the electrons flying around it would be circling from about the distance to Philadelphia. All the space in between the rotation — is empty space.

The chair you are sitting in is made of empty space. I know it sounds crazy, but it’s proven truth now by science. The electrons and the nuclei are constantly engaging through the force known as electromagnetism. Each circumference around the atom is carried about the rotation through an electronic force of a particle of pure energy called a photon. Each photon pushes back with equal force, a tiny push or pull enabled across the emptiness in space. And that, along with some other quantum physics jargon, is really what’s keeping my ass from drifting through “the stuff” I call my chair. It is really all the “energy force” of this process that holds the chair together.

The Human Body is Vibrating

Enough with the science lesson. Energy makes up the physical world. This energy is in constant vibration and movement. The human body “vibrates.” The body can generate mechanical vibrations at very low frequencies, so-called infrasonic waves.

Different organs of the human body produce different resonance frequencies. For example, the heart resonance frequency vibrates at 1 hertz. The brain has a resonance frequency of 10 hertz. Everything we see in life is vibrating at a set pace; some really fast and some really slow. To really understand this try and think of a tire on a car or truck moving VERY fast. It almost can appear that it’s not moving at all right? And at the lowest levels of vibration, objects move extremely slow. They appear to be not moving at all -think rocks and trees.

Between these two states of super fast and very slow, there exist infinite manifestations all occurring at varying octaves of vibration, each with their own existence and reactionary states.

Be More Mindful

I believe that human thought has its own level of vibration. We can tune it like an instrument to produce different results. With better understanding of the principle of vibration, we can aim to generate self-improvement in this physical form. We even can learn to manifest thoughts into existence in our own lives. We just need to be mindful of what thoughts we want to manifest. That depends on becoming more mindful and aware of our mental and emotional state.

As we can better understand vibration and our own frequency; harmony and resonance increases, and thus our power over ourselves and our world. This is the way that we ultimately can control and better ourselves, along with the entire world – one…person…at…a…time.

What examples of the principle of vibration have you witnessed in your life? Please feel free to comment, leave a reply, and join in the conversation. I’m always open and looking for great connections.

Improve Our Lives Using the Principle of Correspondence

The Hermetic Principle of Correspondence is another way to say:

  • “As above; so below
  • “As below; so above”
  • “As within; so without”
  • “As without; so within”

Once understood, we can improve our lives using the principle of correspondence. We begin to see a correspondence between the various planes of existence that the universe operates within.

In a previous post: the first Hermetic Principle of Mentalism, we outlined how the universe is a thought generated plane. After we think, we manifest our thoughts from the mental plane to the physical plane. Depending on how strong the thought, determines the time to manifest in the physical reality.

Realizing this is what can allow an individual to examine solutions to problems that exist “above,” and “below” surface level. What is meant by this is having the ability to analyze where a problem’s real point of manifestation is. For example, if an individual is dealing with a dilemma concerning self-confidence, the problem can be analyzed from points in the mental and physical. There are many different aspects to this particular issue. Let’s attempt to look at a few possible angles in which how the principle of correspondence applies.

Self-Confidence

A person with a “confidence issue,” may be dwelling on some situations in their past that have been brought into the present. The problem actually may have originated with one example, or even multiple examples from the past. Because we only truly live and operate within the “present moment,” the constant dwelling on the lack of self-confidence continues to materialize within the everyday present moment.

Time is an Illusion

Because “time” doesn’t actually really exist, this constant dwelling of lack of confidence is being brought in from the realm of thought. The thought plane is separate from the physical plane. Manifesting in the physical plane always occurs within the present moment. Although it may be in small increments, manifesting always happens in the present. The mental place or “realm,” of thought is not bound by “time.” Thought happens always presently, even if subtle and small. We are always thinking in the present moment, even if we are dwelling on our past. Thinking now, even if about the past, is occurring in the present moment.

Time is a man-made construct as we only truly ever live in “the now.” The past was at one time lived presently in a particular moment. The future will be lived in present moments as well. Time was created by man in order to function within the society we’ve come to know. When we really understand time for what it is, it can be easier to see that it truly doesn’t exist.

We never operate “physically,” in the past or future. Past and future thoughts are what we bring into our current and present state. The solution to this problem is simply to change the mindset and stop focusing on the moments in the past, or worry of the future. This is just one example of how to understand and use the principle of correspondence.

Solving our Daily Problems

Many of our current problems are simply aspects of our daily thoughts. I know it sounds easier to say than to do, but we literally can improve our lives for the better by being able to properly analyze our mental thought activities. By making it a practice to observe our own thoughts, we gain the ability to become mindful. Becoming mindful then puts us more in touch with the present moment, which then shapes our future one day at a time…hopefully for the better.

This is how we get life to “correspond,” with us and for us. It is where we aim to improve our lives. As the French philosopher Rene Descartes famously first said, “I think, therefore I am”…This principle is absolute. It works for the positive and the negative. Think positive – you’ll bring in more positive aspects, think negative and you’ll certainly attract more negativity into your life.

The Hermetic Principle of Mentalism

Where did the phrase, “mind over matter,” come from? Likely we’ve all heard that phrase at one point or another in our lives. Typically it is when we are engaged in some sort of struggle. Perhaps we are engaged in a strenuous physical activity, or feverishly working towards a future goal. Why would such a saying exist? The phrase exists because it is rooted in truth. In the Kybalion, the Hermetic Principle of Mentalism states, “THE ALL is MIND; the universe is mental.”

In my previous post, I drew upon the history of the Kybalion and the mystic traditions that surround it. This post dives into the first of seven Principles, The Hermetic Principle of Mentalism.

THE ALL or “Universal Field

The Kybalion explains “THE ALL” as follows:

  • The Material Universe
  • The Phenomena of Life
  • Matter
  • Energy

Essentially, THE ALL, is Spirit. In itself, THE ALL is unknowable and undefinable. The best way perhaps that it can be thought of is as a universal, infinite, living Mind. Because it consists of all matter and energy within the universe, we as humans having the same particles within our bodies are a part of and connected to this Universal Field.

Correlations between the Kybalion and the Bible

The suggestion is that the universe was generated by the mind of the creator and that all things experienced within our known universe exist within “this mind.” This certainly ties into the teachings of the Bible as well, that, “In the beginning, God created the Heavens and the Earth.” Could that famous phrase from the Bible really mean – the physical of which we see (Earth and universe), and the non-physical in which we don’t see, but does exist (Heaven)? For those reading, please understand that one of my passions is looking for ALL knowledge and truth. I love taking on the responsibility of looking to ALL resources that help me frame up “life,” as we know it – or don’t know it for that matter. By seeking as much knowledge from as many sources of truth, we are able to form the most vast and well-rounded point of views.

The Kybalion attempts to explain the true nature of Energy, Power, and Matter. It attempts to explain how all these are subordinate to the Mastery of Mind.

The Principle of Mentalism and its Impact in Life

The Law of Mentalism,” may very well be why it is so important to work to practice “mindfulness,” or becoming mindful of our thoughts. Seeking to become aware that what we think, on every level, is a manifestation – a potentiality that can be brought into our physical exitance. Thought exists on the mental plane (heavenly plan if you wish to see it that way) and we manifest our thoughts into the physical plane.

What happens when we again become “one” and go back into “thought form” or pure consciousness? Our entire physical existence living on this planet we call Earth, could very well simply be our training grounds for when we are without body – and are only of thought energy, consciousness, or Spirit.

Whatever belief of an afterlife one may have, or if one has no belief is certainly up to that individual to decide upon. However, I certainly hope that we as a human species can gain mindfulness of our thoughts over the course of our lives. It is very likely, in my humble opinion, that we are thinking our thoughts into existence here in the physical. And when we are no longer of this physical earth, those impulses became instantaneous in what comes after physical death. Hence one of the possibilities for learning while here on earth is to work to stay mindful and present.

How we perform here with our physical bodies may pale in comparison to what comes after.
