The 7 Principles of the Kybalion

The Kybalion and Hermetic principles dates back to around 5,000 years ago. It is a compilation of Hermetic teachings. These doctrines are based on 7 principles of the Kybalion, originally explained by Hermes Trismegistus. The Kybalion provides a Master-Key for students to unlock the fundamental and basic teachings of esoteric philosophy. It has been said that one will find the Kybalion when one is ready to discover its teachings.

There are seven Hermetic principles that the entire philosophy is based on. Together, these seven principles constitute an explanation of the basic laws that apply to all of creation.

The Three Initiates

The Kybalion was written by the Three Initiates. As their name suggests, the authors were three students of Hermetic philosophy. Throughout time, Hermetic teachings were passed down through word of mouth teaching, but the Three Initiates decided to document the core principles of the philosophy in order to help it reach a wider audience. The Three Initiates are never named and remain anonymous, although many suspect that New Thought pioneer William Walker Atkinson was one of the authors.

Hermes Trismegistus

Much of the teachings of the Kybalion originate from the ancient sage Hermes Trismegistus. While he was alive, his wisdom reached across the known continents of the time. The Egyptians nicknamed him “the scribe of the gods.” The Greeks referred to him as the “god of Wisdom.” The ancient Romans bestowed him with the name “Mercury.” In his time, Hermes discovered alchemy, which developed later into modern day chemistry. He generated the concept of astrology, which later became astronomy. For his wisdom, he was known as the “Master of Masters.”

The Secrecy Behind the Kybalion

The Kybalion has been occulted since it’s existence. That isn’t to say it is dealing with black or “dark magic” theories. The world “occult” simply means hidden, or kept secret. There are beliefs that government organizations have worked hard to generate the recognition that occult means bad. That couldn’t be further from the truth.

We can certainly see how Hermes and his followers wanted to keep their teachings in hiding. Throughout much of known history we see how those not following the mainstream teachings of the known time faced persecution and even death. Thus, the teachings of the Kybalion were never formalized into any formal religious doctrine.

The Kybalion and Hermetic principles have religions discussed within them from many different regions of the world and belief systems, yet they are not tied to any one religion denomination.

Why Read the Kybalion?

The philosophy and teachings laid out in the Kybalion demonstrates the basic principles of the Hermetic art of mental alchemy. These basic teachings of the 7 principles of the Kybalion involve the mastery of mental forces. When ones learns to apply universal laws, they will possess the key to performing mental transmutation and alchemy. This empowers the student of these principles to adjust their vibrational states. By studying the laws in The Kybalion, a person can learn how to change their reality by simply shifting their focus in their mind.

One of the basic fundamental teachings in The Kybalion is that we live in a mental universe. Even though we see ourselves and experience the physical reality we see before us, All is mind. Thus, understanding how to come into vibrational synchronicity with this vast universal potentiality, we can learn to always live within our best selves. Learning these mental shifts is how we ultimately attain our truest potential and highest abilities.

So it comes down to whether or not one wants to challenge their current belief systems and seek to learn different perspectives on mental alchemy. Are you open minded and ready to accept new possibilities?

Manifesting our Realities

In a world that is constantly screaming out for our attention, it is ever more increasingly difficult staying driven and centered on manifesting our realities – – – or at least the realities that we want. The musings of life dangle distractions before our eyes, ears, and wondering minds – making it challenging to recharge and feed our souls. Most people find that making time to nourish our “higher-selves” an ever fleeting opportunity. However, it need not be so elusive.

Too often we meander through life, drowsily permitting our unconscious and subconscious minds to steer us about our daily activities. These activities may or may not be what our higher selves (soul) need for spiritual, personal, or professional growth. What want to aspire towards is training our unconscious and subconscious mind to guide us down the walks of life that we need brought before us in order to stay on paths of purpose. These new perspectives are what water our souls at a Devine and deeper level; quenching our thirsts in such gratifying and miraculous ways.

What this looks like and feels like can easily be seen and understood. We have all felt the difference in how we approach our daily lives when we want to do something versus needing to do something.

In a previous blog post titled “Discovering Yourself,” I called attention to the reality that at our core of existence; we are really conscious energy. Yes, we have a physical body and live within this physical world, but that body we look at is really just a capsule that holds our consciousness and soul. Our brain is simply a conduit, through which signals are sent to our bodies. When we are within the correct balance of mind / spirit / body – we can attract to us the areas through which we can expand and bring more fulfillment and meaning into our lives.

What we bring into the lens of focus in our lives is where the state of our conscious, unconscious, and subconscious mind is living. This is how we manifest our realities. We are constantly manifesting our realities whether we realize it or not, the key to the process is to step back and observe thoughts, desires, and actions.

Let’s discuss some key elements of how we can become more consciously aware of our thoughts so that we can help drive and manifest the lives that will be the most fulfilling for us:

  1. Meditation
  • Meditation is one of the most successful ways of quieting the mind and bringing about inner peace, focus, and purposeful attention.

  • Make time for 5 mins a day when it works for you.
  • Pause, take a few deep breaths, close your eyes, and bring into your focus what your intentions are – what your lifestyle desires are.
  • Meditation can be done anywhere and does not need to be so overthought. Just quiet your mind, wherever you are, and allow any drifting thoughts to float by, but put forth a focused intention out into the universe of what you want more of in your life.
  • Make this a daily habit
  • Pay Attention
  • Watch what life is placing in front of you.
  • We often miss a great deal of our intentions we manifest as we do not connect the dots to our meditations and purposeful intent.
  • The situations that are brought before us are often the results of our thoughts, meditations, and desires – whether we realize it or not.

  • No Negative Self-Talk
  • Realize that the negative emotion inside of us are going to reciprocate more of the same.
  • What we say to ourselves inside our heads becomes the truth
  • Change your self-talk to more positive affirmations

When we are fully conscious, drama is not permitted to enter our lives. Manifesting our realities becomes more powerful and self-fulfilling. It is through our subconscious and unconscious thought that we can program and manifest consciously into our lives what we truly desire.

We must become aware of the negative thoughts, desires, and destructive self talk that we often do to ourselves. When we can rid our minds of that type of thinking, we will begin to see more of our purpose and life plan drawn into our lives.

When you live with acceptance of “what is” that is the end of all drama in your life. The situation can either be worked on or made to regress even worse by actions taken through the present moment of each day.

All of us are manifesting our realities each waking moment of every day. We have to “filter” our thoughts in such a way that we get more of what we want or need and less of what we don’t.

Discovering Yourself

Who are you? How would you answer that question upon asked? I challenge myself with this question often just to ensure I keep perspective in life. Discovering yourself often turns into a lifelong journey. Our careers, names, birthplaces, personalities, and material possessions are just parts of the physical reality puzzle of our lives. All of these collectively make up how others see us in this physical existence; but are they us? Do they define us?

What is the part of us that defines our true self? How do we identify with our being? Discovering yourself is a deep and inward journey that will contain learnings that can help you define your purpose in life.

For the better part of 10 years or so I’ve been asking myself these inward-dwelling questions. If you get to this point of life where you’re asking yourself these types of questions – congratulations…the real work is now beginning.

When most people ponder the question of “who they are,” they are quick to think of what they do for a profession in life. That helps define a person right? What about where they come from, such as – country, city, place of origin? Do those identifiers define us? What about likes and dislikes; maybe even throw our religions and political backgrounds into the picture. Food we enjoy eating and places we like to travel, sports teams we’re fans of, types of clothing we prefer to wear. Surely all these things should help us describe who we really are.

The truth is we are NONE of these things. Actually, all the above mentioned items describe “physical” aspects of our lives. The things we do while in this physical existence. They are not at all what we really are. So what truly are we? Are we the voice in our heads – our thoughts? Maybe that would make more sense.

My best attempt at answering this question with my understanding at this point in my life is this; we are the awareness that stands in the background, that observes the conscious thought. Now, some people may read this and wonder what on earth I’m trying to say. All I can say is there is conscious, subconscious, and unconscious thought. All of this exists in the mind. The mind is energy through which the brain (conduit) sends thoughts and signals through the body that both consciously and unconsciously guide us through life. What I believe we really are, is the energy behind all of it. Call it Soul, Higher Self, Consciousness, or God itself…

Consciousness & Levels of Mind

Whether we realize it or not, this energy is always there. Discovering yourself can be an awakening of sorts. The ability to “step back within yourself,” and “watch the daily movie play out.” This, in my eyes, is the best way to describe who we really are at our core.

The question is, who or what is running the show?

Are we on auto-pilot as we aimlessly fly through life, or have we begun to look inwards to truly try and understand how this thing called life really works? Once we begin to understand “mind,” we can begin to tackle the ego. Trying to understand the ego, is perhaps the greatest undertaking in ones personal journey of awakening. For as long as we only identify with “our mind,” the ego will continue to run our lives. Ego is the source of many problems in our lives. It goes well beyond conceitedness and into fear, anxiety, depression, and all other aspects of lower based consciousness. Ego is full of wants and judgements. As long as the egoic mind is running us – we can never truly be at peace.

When it comes to pondering the question, “Who are you?” – pause and consider the consciousness that has experienced your life. Discovering yourself can be a very rewarding journey, but like all journeys we have to be prepared for what we may discover along the way. Not everything we discover is going to be what we want to find – but it likely is what we need.

5 Resources for Personal Enlightenment

These 5 Resources for personal enlightenment are what have been some of the best learnings I’ve used in my own life. The path to personal awakening will be different for everyone. There is no one size fits all when it comes to what we each need for our own growth and development.

However, speaking from personal experience, I certainly can share what have been some of the biggest key influences on me. There have been countless books, podcasts, articles, video documentaries, and other resources that I have used to raise my awareness on life.

Reflecting back over the 10+ years that I’ve been working on my own spiritual development, I have aimed to pull the top 5 biggest influences that have made the most positive impact in my life. These were the most eye opening, big picture perspectives that helped me put actions into place to drive real change.

I hope those that read and come across these suggestions enjoy them and explore them for their own learning and development:

5. Gaia

One of my favorite series on Gaia is “Missing Links” with Greg Braden, where the past, present, and future of human kind is examined. Greg is a renowned scientist that delves into many mysteries that help examine new learnings on our origins and where our future is taking us. He challenges the status quo of history and the much of the learning that we have been taught. There is so much more to our existence and possibilities of human potential that Greg meticulously explains with drawn out proof of facts and evidence.

Dr. Bruce Lipton’s “Inner Evolution” describes the new learnings of epigenetics and how we can reprogram our genes through conscious thought and targeted focus techniques. These learnings challenge the old-school teachings that we are stuck with what we are born with. We now know through brain elasticity that we can increase our brain function and expand beyond previously believed limitations.

4. E2 – Nine Do it Yourself Energy Experiments That Prove Your Thoughts Create Your Reality by Pam Grout

This book is a short 163 page do it yourself practice guide that proves the universe responds to your thoughts. You literally practice and bring manifesting to life with practical easy to conduct tests. When the lessons of this book are put into play, it is hard not to begin to see our reality for what it truly is – energy and thought responsive.

3. Super Human by Dave Asprey

The reading in “Super Human” is all about putting the health of our bodies first. For we cannot attain optimum levels of consciousness if we do not first provide our bodies with the right nutrition and supplements. Dave takes the reader through easy practical daily changes to health management as well as the care necessary for our cellular make up. In doing the processes taught in this book, we are able to slow down the aging process with possibilities of living well past 100 years, and into realms of previously unthought lifespans.

2. Power vs Force by David Hawkins

Power vs Force” is centered on humanities ability to evolve based on the levels of our consciousness. When we are based in lower levels of consciousness such as “fear” or “jealousy,” we cannot empower ourselves to achieve greater good. Because we attract what we put out energetically, we will forever be attracting to ourselves the energetic state that we are operating within. When we reach higher levels such as “love” and “peace” we begin to bring about higher level energy frequencies that begin to empower us.

  1. The Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle

This book changed my life. From high blood pressure and anxiety to now completely normal and so much more calm and present. And not just health wise, but from the aspect of a calm and centered ability to notice our ego, the inner voice in our head. In this book, we learn that every moment only occurs presently. The past is gone and the future is only generated through our present actions. The only way to bring full awareness and peace is to be in the present moment.

A Reason for Being

There are only two mistakes on the path to truth – not starting the path and not going all the way to the end.

Since I can remember, I’ve always been a curious individual. Throughout my life I have pushed, poked, and prodded to understand “Why.”

“Our Why,” is what should make us get out of bed each day. It should be the center of our purpose and what motivates us to push onward. Even when we hit apparent roadblocks and difficult times, it is the fuel and empowerment that can bring us back toward our calling. All of us have it – some just know it with deeper conviction. “The Why,” is our power – without it we have no meaning. Today, as we move through an ever-changing and often challenging reality, the search for truth should take on an even higher purpose. When we seek for truth with intention, it is revealed for us. It takes hard work, and is not going to simply appear for us. We have to put out the intention and do the work. Those that seek truth in earnest will be rewarded. Those that look for the quickest and most readily available sources are often misguided. There are repercussions for closing one’s eyes and hoping the world passes by, while we just simply live our lives. Ignorance is not bliss

But many of us have a hard time finding what our purposes are. Below is great diagram that comes from the Japanese lifestyle designed to help us find our reason for being.

The key is to find the sweet spot where we can:

  • Do what we are good at for a profession
  • We happen to love what we do for that profession
  • What we do meets the needs of the world and others around us
  • And we can monetize this profession to keep bring more to those in need of our services

There are numerous books dedicated to ikigai, but one in particular is considered the most definitve: Ikigai-ni-tsuite (About Ikigai), published in 1966.

The author, psychiatrist Mieko Kamiya, teaches that as a word, ikigai is alike to “happiness” but has a subtle difference in its meaning. Ikigai is what allows you to look forward to the future even if you’re miserable right now. The key is to keep pushing onward, sending out mental intentions of wanting to have your focus and reason for being brought into light.

JAPANESE PEOPLE BELIEVE THAT THE SUM OF SMALL JOYS IN EVERYDAY LIFE RESULTS IN MORE FULFILLING LIFE AS A WHOLE

As you work your way around the diagram you can see some examples of where many of us often times fall into places of comfort, but lacking fulfillment of some sort. When we recognize these shortcomings, it can tee up the possibility for some self-exploration and search for more meaning in our lives.

I love this quote from Aristotle. It challenges us to seek our truest purposes in life based off our passions and levels of impact they can make in the world. When we can effectively bring our life into focus in this manner, we will feel more purposeful and the truths that we need to discover in order to continue to keep our lives in alignment with our purpose will continue to be brought before us.

I have found this to be the case in my life as I work closer and closer to my passions and my purpose. There is a certain type of synergy and synchronicity that I discovered when I bring my life and work into alignment to my purpose and mission. It is also very invigorating and motivating to watch this process happen because it is reaffirming that you are on the right journey.

While venturing down your path, just know you can only make two mistakes. If you have begun down the path, you are well on your way. The only other mistake is giving up. There are no other rights or wrongs – simply take the step and never stop. Keep seeking your passions.

Remember the teaching of Japanese Ikigai and even if you find yourself within a career or position where you feel you do not align with your purpose, look for ways to still make impacts that do align with your personal truths. Perhaps you find that new doors within your company open up for you to better align with your purpose. Maybe new positions will be brought before you that you can take up. There is always the possibility as well that you find yourself in a career or job change for the better.

When we turn our lives over to our higher selves and allow the flow to take place, we begin to see the magic take place.

Truth – In Higher Consciousness

What is Truth? How do we go about “finding truth?” Many of us have thrown out claims of what we believe to be true and what we see as false. Claiming “truth” and “falsities” are both powerful claims no matter where they come from. Is there a way or a process in which we can sift through the minutia of the details in order to make more well informed decisions?

It is my belief that if we ponder our life questions – be that through meditation, prayer, or deep contemplation; the answers and evidence of what we seek will be placed in front of our eyes. What I mean by this is not getting it from gossip or what others tell us, but rather a deep “knowing” that comes through a lot of reflection and deep desire to see truth. Truth will find us if we are deeply wanting and desiring it. However, we must first be “calibrated” at the proper level of consciousness or in the right mindset.

In the book, Power vs Force, by Dr. David R. Hawkins, the tactics and means by which we can see through the webs of misdirection and deceit are explained. He describes some real life tests that we can use to see the truth in our lives. We simply have to be in the right state of mind. For example, someone living within the “grief” or “fear” levels of consciousness will always receive statements of confirmation within that level of consciousness they are residing within (like attracts like). But if we are living within levels of “love” and “peace,” we can implement a process by which truth will always find us. As Dr. Hawkins calls out in his book Power vs Force, “Sheep’s clothing need no longer hide the wolf.”

Levels of Consciousness

In “Power vs Force, the levels of consciousness are explained. When we move ourselves up the ladder with self-exploration and achieve higher levels, we are more ready and able to see truth. With lower modes of consciousness, we become victims of falsities and corruption

The energy field of consciousness that permeates in us and within the universe, contains all frequencies of thought. Everyone whom has ever walked the earth has put out thoughts into existence. Whether it was in writing or speeches, all of recorded history can detail a level of either higher or lower conscious thought that is married to it.

Entire books and pieces of art have a level of vibration attached to them through the consciousness that generated them. Within Dr. Hawkins’s book, we can see how certain aspects of creativity through time have graded out on the scale of consciousness. The Bible, writings from Shakespeare, Hitler’s Mein Kampf, even his own book, Power vs. Force, is graded. What we begin to see by using this practice is the state of mind though which existed from those whom created it. Were they in levels of lower consciousness or levels of higher consciousness? Were their attempts aimed at driving fear and control or empowerment and enlightenment?

We can begin to learn how to make personal decisions in our lives with the best possible outcomes. We can study pieces of work and not only wonder what their creators where intending, but receive inputs and outputs on truth for what their intentions were. How does it work? How do we begin to weed out all the possibilities and work towards knowable outcomes instead of simply educated guesses about particular events or writing?

The method is referred to as the “muscle test.” Because our bodies respond to energy, the consciousness of our minds has the ability show us through our muscles “positive” and “negative” outcomes. It works like a computer program with inputs being given as a “0” for “yes” or a “1” for “no.” We can generate any statement we want in our minds and test the validity by using this process. However, how we specify the statement to be tested is of paramount importance.

For example, asking whether or a decision is a “good one,” can be misread. What constitutes “good” Good for whom? When and under what amount of time? What the universe believes to be good for us can be highly subjective in that moment of time since time is not necessarily linear and expands beyond just that one exact moment. The specificity of the question matters. Stating, “opportunity XYZ presents the most positive outcome for me in this moment,” would be a much better example of specific and relevant feedback. We do not want to ask questions, but rather give statements to be judged positive “Yes” or negative “No.”

The various methods are described in the book. The most popular being the use of two people and one pushing down on another’s outstretched arm to see if it stays firm “positive” or the muscles give way and the arm falls “negative.” However, there are tests that can be done by yourself. One method is by taking your middle finger and holding it to your thumb to form a circle. Then with the opposing hand taking your index finger and attempting to pull the circle apart. You can tell the positive outcome if the circle easily holds and see a negative outcome if the circle easily breaks. You must apply the same gentle pulling motion each time while reaffirming your statement you want to test in your mind.

Feel free to try this for yourself and formulate your own conclusion. Upon doing this for some time I can say that I have seen it work more than I have not and I have tried to implemented it in my life for “fact checking” or trying to determine higher levels of positive intent. The key is to try and stay objective and use the same process each time. You will easily be able to tell if the circle breaks just ever so subtly or stays firm. That is all it seems to take to show the outcome of positive versus negative consciousness from my own personal experiences.

It is important to understand that for the best accuracy of this process, that the person or people conducting is calibrated over 200 on the above scale. Even at 200, there is said to be a 30% chance of error. Staying impartial to the response is also key so that any self-serving personal interest not affect results. Basically, try and be of clear mind and without any self-serving intent before conducting these tests or results will be flawed. With enough practice however, I believe this method can become an effective process to try and add into our own personal lives.

The answers we get back about life, or anything else, generally are a just the reflection of ourselves and our own awareness levels or current levels of consciousness. When we align within the common good, it means doing what is Right or what is of higher consciousness. That is also how we generate real positive change in the world. We first start with ourselves and ensuring that what we put out into the universe is of high levels of empowerment and consciousness.

Lastly, realize that there is a path we can help ourselves see and walk – a purpose for each of us. Put out the intention for guidance with the right positive, higher consciousness intentions, and then turn over your life to the greater good and watch your life go in the direction necessary.

With this practice in your daily arsenal you can work to:

1. Accept what is only true

2. Work for the common good

3. Match your needs and wants with what is in your control

4. Embrace what life has in store for us and be thankful for the experiences you gain

The book Power vs. Force was certainly a positive impact for me on my own personal journey of Truth Seeking, so I am hoping that sharing this post leads to others having some eye opening personal experiences of their own.
